Golden Hour Big Sur Engagement at Garrapata State Park
Golden Hour Big Sur Engagement at Garrapata State Park
There’s something absolutely magical about Garrapata State Park at golden hour — the way the light dances on the cliffs, the wind moves through the grasses, and the ocean crashes below. It’s one of my favorite places in Big Sur to capture couples who want their engagement photos to feel romantic, editorial, and completely unforgettable.
When Jade and Grant reached out about doing a two-hour engagement session in Big Sur, I knew immediately we had to start at Garrapata. We explored three beautiful locations within the park — each offering its own unique vibe — and created some truly dreamy images along the way.
Jade & Grant’s Big Sur Engagement Story
From the start, Jade and Grant brought such a calm, grounded energy to their session. Their connection was effortless — warm, playful, and deeply in sync. They weren’t interested in stiff poses or overly structured shots — they wanted the experience to feel natural, full of movement and emotion. And Big Sur delivered in the most beautiful way.
Stop 1 – Coastal Cliffs & Windblown Romance
We started at a scenic overlook with rugged cliffs and dramatic ocean views. The golden hour light was just beginning to hit, casting a soft glow over the coastline. Jade wore a flowing neutral-toned dress that caught the wind perfectly, and Grant kept it cool in classic layers. The wind was strong (as it often is in Big Sur), but it only added to the mood — movement, drama, and so much emotion.
Stop 2 – Sunset Glow in the Fields
Our second stop brought us into one of Garrapata’s trail-accessible meadow areas, where the light was dreamy. The tall grass swayed in the breeze and the sun wrapped around them like a warm hug. It was one of those moments where everything lined up — the lighting, the location, and their energy.
This is the kind of spot I always recommend when couples want something softer and more intimate during their session.
Stop 3 – Cliffside Vows & Candid Moments
To wrap up the session, we made our way to a more tucked-away overlook where the ocean and cliffs met in the most epic way. Jade and Grant shared a few private moments, held each other close, and leaned into the beauty of it all. I captured a mix of wide, cinematic shots and tight, emotional frames that truly tell the story of who they are together.
The light shifted from golden to warm peach and then into that soft post-sunset glow — my favorite kind of magic.
